Auto Complete 'Memorized' Address is Wrong and Unable to Remove

Description:

Most Outlook 2000/2002 users really appreciate the "autofill" (aka typeahead) feature when typing in the To: address in a new email message. The problem is that sometimes it remembers addresses you don't want it to remember. The same thing happens in Internet Explorer, where it remembers Web sites and text box entries that you don't want it to remember.
When typing an address into the To:, Cc: or Bcc: field of a new email message, Outlook will auto complete an address based on addresses it has cached. Sometimes, the auto complete address is wrong and the customer would like it removed.

Symptoms:

Client may use the auto-fill feature to send an e-mail and the e-amil ends up sitting in the outbox and not able to be sent out.

Solution:

There are 4 options to remove the remembered addresses:
Option 1 To delete one address from cached auto complete file when there is a mutable auto complete entry:
1. Open Outlook.
2. Click the New button to open a new message.
3. Type the first three characters of the cached name into the 'To:' field to trigger the auto complete feature. The customer will see a list of addresses.
4. Press the up or down arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight the offending cached name.
5. Press press the DELETE key on your keyboard to remove it.

Option 2 To delete one address from cached auto complete file when there is a single auto-complete entry:
1. Add a second entry that uses the same first three letters as the offending cached name.
2. Follow step above to Delete name.
3. In a new e-mail message, in the To box, type the correct name (the first three letters must be the same as the old incorrect one).
4. In the CC box, type the first three letters of the recipient to reveal the auto-correct name list with both entries now showing.
5. Use the Down arrow keys to move the selection to the incorrect entry, and then press the Delete key.

Option 3 Turn off this feature, so that addresses are never suggested:
1. Open Outlook
2. Go to the Tools pull-down menu, choose Options.
3. Click the E-Mail Options button, and the Advanced E-mail Options button.
4. Uncheck the box for "Suggest names while completing the To, Cc and Bcc fields”.

Option 4 To remove all the saved cached addresses:
1. Close Outlook
2. Search for *.NK2, should be in C:\Documents and Settings\SBCID\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
3. Delete the one that is the same as the customer Outlook profile (may need to check which outlook profile the customer is using – i.e. OL2002)
4.     Open Outlook and the cached address are gone. Outlook will start to build new auto complete list.
